Physicians Working Together Celebrates 11 Years and Names Darrin Ward Its 11th Medical Student Scholarship Recipient

This year, as Physicians Working Together celebrates its 11th anniversary, the organization is proud to announce Darrin Ward as its 11th Medical Student Scholarship recipient.

Founded in 2015 by Dr. Kimberly F. Jackson, Physicians Working Together was created with a clear mission: to connect, collaborate, and care. What began as a vision to bring physicians together has grown into a platform centered on mentorship, medical student encouragement, physician leadership, and community impact.

At the heart of that work is Dr. Jackson’s belief that the future of medicine must be nurtured with more than academic expectation. It must be supported with encouragement, visibility, and meaningful opportunities that remind students they are seen, valued, and needed.

That is why this scholarship matters.

Ward is a medical student at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, College of Medicine, where he is part of the school’s inaugural class. His path already reflects leadership, service, research, and a deep commitment to community. But what made his application stand out was not only what he is studying. It was who he is becoming.

Ward’s unique talent is in culinary arts. He began cooking around the age of 16, learning from his grandmother. What started as family influence grew into a true passion. Today, he uses cooking as both a creative outlet and a way to promote healthier living. From meal prep to private dinners, Ward brings care, intention, and wellness into the kitchen.

For Physicians Working Together, that matters. Medicine is not only about treating illness. It is about understanding people. It is about lifestyle, culture, discipline, joy, and the everyday choices that help communities live better. Darrin’s love for healthy cooking reflects the same spirit this scholarship was created to celebrate: humanity in medicine.

Medical school already demands excellence. Students do not get there by accident, and they do not remain there without discipline. The Physicians Working Together Medical Student Scholarship looks beyond grades to honor the personal gifts, stories, and purpose that keep future physicians encouraged on the journey. Ward represents that beautifully.

He is a scholar, a mentor, a future physician, and yes, someone you may also want to call if you are in the Los Angeles area and looking for a personal chef who understands both flavor and wellness.

As Physicians Working Together marks 11 years of connection, collaboration, and care, Darrin Ward is also a reminder of why Dr. Jackson’s mission continues to expand. Through Physicians Working Together, she is working to build a larger network of physicians, medical students, community leaders, partners, and supporters who understand that strengthening healthcare begins long before a student becomes a doctor.

It begins with mentorship, encouragement, opportunity, and seeing the whole person.

The future of medicine needs more than brilliant minds. It needs whole people, committed leaders, and organizations willing to invest in both.

Congratulations to Darrin Ward, Physicians Working Together’s 11th Medical Student Scholarship recipient!
